COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT BMW X MODELS

BMW offers a wide range of SUVs and Coupe SUVs, ranging from the compact yet spacious X1 to the large, luxurious X7. High performance models engineered by BMW M, plug-in hybrid electric SUVs, and all-electric vehicles also share the X model name. These versatile vehicles can be configured by engine size, drivetrain, and with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. For the truly discerning driver, models hand-tuned and finished by ALPINA are a mark of distinction.

The 'X' designation, referencing BMW’s xDrive heritage, indicates an SUV or Coupe SUV. These vehicles are built for an active lifestyle, with increased cargo space, passenger seating, and towing capacity on some models.

All BMW SUVs can be equipped with xDrive, BMW's intelligent all-wheel drive system, for improved grip and stability. High performance models – like the BMW X4 M, X5 M Competition, and X6 M Competition – include specialized M xDrive with adjustable driving modes for a sportier all-wheel drive experience.

The BMW X1 is the most compact member of the BMW SUV lineup, at 4,45 meters long and an interior headroom of 1,06 meters. Despite its small size, the X1 can fit an impressive amount of cargo – up to 16,62 cubic meters.

The BMW X7 is not just the largest in the BMW SUV lineup – it's also the biggest ever built at 5,16 meters long and 1,8 meters high. This large luxury vehicle also includes a cargo capacity of up to 25,59 cubic meters.

The BMW X5 and BMW X7 models – including the X7 xDrive40i, X7 M60i, and ALPINA XB7 – include third-row seating; either as a standard bench for a total vehicle capacity of seven occupants, or available captain's chairs for six.

BMW offers two body styles in the X model range. Sport utility vehicles – including all models of X1, X3, X5, X7, and iX – are designed with high profiles, ground clearance, and powerful engines. Coupe SUVs – including all models of X2, X4, and X6 – are similar in style and performance, but are styled with a lower, swooping roofline for a more aggressive appearance.
